Elexis is a project designed primarly for german speaking doctors - therefore it is almost cmpletely in german.
Thanks to eclipse's localization elements, it is, however, possible to implement other languages without programming knowledge.
There is a partly translation to french that is activated automatically when elexis runs in a french operating system environment.

Unfortunately, we do not have the time and the resources to complete this translation or to provide other languages. If you are interested to contribute with translations to english or other languages, you are very welcome.

The base of the localization system are files with the names "messages.properties, messages_xx.properties, plugin.properties, and plugin_xx.properties", where xx is a language/country code.

The system will always chose the "best" localization file for the operating system's locale. If your computer runs with a German, Austrian or Swiss-German Version of Microsoft Windows, it will look for the files calles "plugin_de.properties and messages_de.properties. If it does not find files matching the current locale, it will use the default files plugin.properties and messages.properties.

Thus, if you would like to provide an english translation, you would only have to provide a file plugin_en.properties and messages_en.properties for every plugin.properties and messages.properties in every subdirectory of elexis.

The best point to start are the complete sources. Check them out from subversion (as explained here) , or download the source tarball from sourceforge. If you hav difficulties unpacking a tarball, send me a message and I'll send you the files zipped.

Then, go through all directories and find the .properties files. They are just textfiles with a number of lines as the following:

elexis.sidebar=Startleiste

The part left of the = is the name of the property, that must not be changed, the part on the right side is the text that should be translated

Edit the files and save them with the proper suffix (_en for english, _it for italian and so on)

Then, send me your files and I'll incorporate them into elexis.

The Handbook

The second important point is the handbook. It exists only in german, but a translation would be greatly apreciated. If you are interested in translating, you might download the .tex sources from sourceforge and translate these.

Translate partly and feedback

There have been several people up to now who have been interested in translating. Unfortunately I did not hear much of them. So please:

If you want to translate a part, please tell me wich part (which files) you take and to which language you want to translate them, so we can avoid that the several people do the same work several times!
